Crystal clear waters, perfect for underwater life, unrivalled nightlife and an international crowd, that’s Malta and for reasons like these (among many others) more and more people are choosing it as their holiday destination. Furthermore, as we want to continue discovering places and secrets of this island, we have thought of making a tour from the heights and reviewing our 5 favorite spots in Malta.
Surely there’s no better way to end Malta in a day than by discovering it from the heights.
1. Upper Barrakka Gardens
These gardens were built in the 1560s on top of the St. Peter & Paul Bastion, where the cannons used to defend the entrance to the port were located. It’s also one of the highest points of the whole island, from where we can see the three cities: Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea.
2. Lower Barrakka Gardens
Located in Valletta, these gardens also offer stunning views of the port of the Maltese capital. Although these gardens were once used privately, they’re now open to the public so anyone can access them. Also, once we get here, we can’t only see the views, but also some sculptures, monuments and temples dedicated either to historical figures or great historical moments.
3. Comino island
This viewpoint isn’t located on the island of Malta itself, but on the small island of Comino. The views this island offers us are to a turquoise and transparent background that will leave us stunned. Moreover, we cannot miss visiting one of the best beaches in the area: Blue Lagoon. Also, since we’re around here, something we can’t forget to do is the boat ride between Gozo, Comino and Blue Lagoon – an awesome way to visit these towns and the beach!
4. Dingli Cliffs
Amon our 5 favourite spots in Malta, we couldn’t miss Comino. If we go to the south of the island, we’ll find this natural and rugged area: the cliffs of Dingli. They are located 13 km from La Valletta and only 2 km from Rabat. It’s one of the highest points in Malta, so the cliffs are breathtaking! Also, if we feel like a bit of adventure, in this area of the coast, we’ll find the famous Blue Grotto cave.
5. The Point
The church we’ll see in the skyline is the famous Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We must not forget to visit it! Besides, the entrance is free!
This spot couldn’t be missed in the list of our 5 favourite spots in Malta is located in one of the most famous places of the island: the shopping center “The Point”. But it’s true that, despite the fact that it’s famous, the viewpoint isn’t so famous, so when we go we can enjoy incredible views of Vaalletta without a large number of tourists. The shopping center is located at the beginning of Sliema Ferries. In addition, if we visit this area we can make a whole 2×1 since we have the option to enjoy an unforgettable party by boat that ends about midnight that will give us the chance to watch one of the best sunsets in Malta.
